Two horses. A river crossing. A cart and its driver, picking their way through the ford with the patience of people who knew time was not their enemy.
This is a large original vintage lithograph titled "At The Ford" — a country landscape by American painter Frank F. English, depicting a horse-drawn cart with two horses crossing a river at a shallow ford, matted on embossed cardboard. Numbered #2269. Circa 1930s–1940s. One available. Unframed.
This piece originated as a salesman sample calendar — the calendar portion has been removed, but the print and its beautiful embossed mat are in absolutely wonderful condition, and the presentation is handsome enough to stand entirely on its own. Frank F. English was an American painter known for rural and equestrian subjects; the calendar lithographer titled this piece "At The Ford," which may or may not be the original painting title, but perfectly describes the scene. The embossed mat gives it a framed quality even before framing. A large, ready-to-display piece.
A wonderful piece for a rural Americana collector, an equestrian art enthusiast, a farmhouse or study interior, or anyone who appreciates the quiet dignity of working horses in the American landscape.
